Hi all

I'm thinking about a holiday in Cuba in September, I've been looking at Tripadviser but many of the hotels have such mixed reviews it's hard to decide.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Hi Freckles.
We spent 2 weeks in Cuba during March. We stayed at the Paradisus Rio De Oro near Guardalvaca, It was a fabulous hotel...I would go back tomorrow if i could. If you do go to Cuba you must go to Havana..but only for a couple of days...it is a crazy city! The cuban people are lovely.
If you want to know anything else about the hotel feel free to ask.

Lynda

Hi,

We went to Cuba, Varedero, almost 4 years ago now for our honeymoon. the beach is very nice, the sea is warm and the sun was bright and hot! We stayed in the Princessa Del Mar which was a really nice place. i didn't have any complaints at all. The food was very nice too. Some people we talked to whilst on a trip to Havana were staying in other hotels and they weren't too impressed with the food on offer.....

It's not the Maldives and out of the two places i'd rather go to the Maldives but obviously depending on how much you're looking to spend makes the difference.

I must stress we had a fantastic time it's just now we've experienced the Maldives it's going to be so hard to have a 'beach holiday' anywhere else

Hope this helps a little

Jon

Hiya, we went to Cayo Coco a couple of years ago and loved it. Stayed at the Hotel Tryp. I think it was a 4* (although not quite a british 4*!) refurbishment of the rooms was in progress whilst there which to be fair it was in need of. But the staff were so friendly and a good mix of restaurants to eat in. The sea and beaches were fantastic, absolutely beautiful. The thing is you can't please everyone, we heard a group of British people moaning that there weren't any shops! We thought for goodness sake look outside...who needs shops, besides did you not do any research?! We booked there on a deal and we couldn't complain, it was one of our most memorable holidays. You just have to remember it's a communist country so it is like going back in time. thumright

Thanks for the responses, I'm definately warming to the idea. Linda the Paradisus Rio De Oro looks lovely and adults only, it's a bit expensive though I'v just received an email from First Choice and I can get a deal to Meeru at the same time for an extra 600 and I was sorely tempted to book it:oops: but held back as we're going in December.

I think I might wait until a little closer to the date and try for a late booking. Any other recommendations welcome though.

Hi again Freckles!
The thing with the Paradisus is you book the cheapest room with the travel agent then upgrade either direct with the hotel via email or when you get there. Thomsons wanted over 100 per person per night to upgrade to the royal service rooms, we paid under 600 per couple for the week!!! Royal service is great....your own butler...24hr room service....champagne on demand and you will get sick of lobster!

Hi freckles

If you have a look at this site and register they send you an email once a week with the best deals in the country, Cuba is on it quite a lot.
I can't remember full details but it was 700 AI 14 nights -3 nights in Havana. If you have a mooch around the site you may find it.

Hi Freckles

We have just returned from Paradisus Rio de Oro this morning Crying or Very sad
It was by far our best hoilday yet(excluding our wedding in Antigua Wink )

The choice of food and drink was fantastic. We could not fault the holiday in any way and found it excellent value for money, far better value than the Maldives.

In fact, I'm already looking at prices for next Easter Very Happy

Thanks Si, I've had a quick look and can't see anything for September but it's early days yet, I'll keep checking back.

Looks like it might be the Paradisus Rio de Oro as it seems to be getting good reviews. Thanks to Jeanette and LyndaT for the info

Hi simon

Thanks for the info, I've signed up now. I've kind of got my heart set on the Paradisus now given the reviews on here, but I'll keep looking at the site to see if I can get a good deal.

There are usually good deals on Cuba because of the fact that Americans can't travel there. I've been to Habana a couple times and loved it. It's definitely an interesting country as not much has changed there in over 50 years. They still drive old American cars from back in the 50's and 60's. Parque Central in Habana is a nice hotel. The beach resorts are usually far from Habana with some on the other end.
