Due to a horrendous year last year we had to cancel Meeru for Jan13
By October things were looking a bit better so decided to re-book. To our horror the price had jumped to £7300 (premier seats) and the dates we wanted were full anyway
So we headed to Thailand and hated every minute.
Thankfully I can now smile again as we've just booked for Jan14.
I seriously cannot wait |

Sorry to hear you'd had to cancel!
We went to Thailand last year as our main hols as we had a wedding to attend out there. The wedding and company we had was fab but I didn't enjoy it as much as it thought I would, I just found it really commercialised and so like you, this year we rebooked Meeru!
Let the countdowns begin! |

Hi Sarah
The resort where we stayed was OK, but if you left and went into town the prices were sky high (£20 for a Primark quality t-shirt) and at times we felt intimidated to buy. I spent the whole 2 weeks dreaming of Meeru and getting home.
Tick Tock Tick Tock the countdown has begun |

I'm so glad I've found someone else who feels the same as me about Thailand!!! Where did you go? We were on Koh Samui. I felt that I didn't see "real" Thailand though I'd love to go to Koh Thao or a more remote quieter island to see if it lives up to my expectations but afraid I'd still hate it! |

We stayed at the Beyond Resort in Khao Lak. It's very remote, about 1.20hrs from the airport. The beach looks lovely and white but when you are on it its a good few feet of broken shells, very sinky, very sharp and you can't see where your stepping because the water is very tidal and murky brown/green.
I love to swim and cool off but only went in the water once. There were major fights over the sun loungers (I wanted to go buy a union jack flag towel and roll it over the infinity pools like a bouncing bomb) by 8am all the lay down ones had been taken. There are no english speaking staff only 1 employed German. The food was awful and cold. I also had my first encounter of a blind flying screaming HUGE Cicada bug. http://youtube.com/watch?v=IFDZhiIrHK8
I'm not normally affraid of creepy crawlies but this one freaked me out lol.
On the plus side Thailand has many very beautiful temples, but right next door people live in appalling poverty. I've found that a LOT of tourists will have nothing bad said about Thailand. They are free to love it. I am free not to |
