This was our 4th visit to Meeru.

Flight from Gatwick was ok, plane was a little old and tired but it got us there so no problems on the flight, food, entertainment and flight crew all fine...

Arrival at Male was straight forward, quickly thru customs and out to meet Dave our Rep who advised us that it would be a 30 minute wait for the boat to Meeru....20 minutes later we were called and boarded the Meeru Star for our transfer to Meeru..

We set off in bright sunshine but as we got closer to Meeru the clouds started to roll in and it got very dark, then the heavens opened and stayed open Exclamation, we kept looking for the Wok to come into view but the rain was that heavy we could not see any sign of Meeru, only when the engines slowed down did we know we were close to the island, 500 yards off shore and we could not even see the island the rain was that heavy...So we stepped off the boat into a Tropical Downpour we were given an umbrella but this was of little use as the rain was blowing horizontally and we got soaked...Spotted our name on the board and walked in to the Kakuni Bar with the promise of two towels to dry off, as of writing we are still waiting for the towels to arrive Thumb down

As our room was not ready until 2pm, it was two very very wet new arrivals that sat down for dinner in the Fari...

We asked for a room in the low 200's and got 213, this was ok as it was close enough to the Wok for the best Iced Coffee's on the island..
.
The rain stayed with us for 13 of the 14 days we were there, be it during the night or day, but it did not spoil our holiday...

Every day was almost the same up at first light for a walk round the island, with a stop for coffee in the Dhoni Bar sitting outside on the comfy seats, back to the room for a shower then out to breakfast.
The rest of the day was spent reading or snorkelling or just chilling before another afternoon walk around the island.

Had a few treatments at the Spa, those girls do have magic hands...

The Asian Wok called us every day for an iced coffee at around 5ish but we only got one dangle Sad on our last day due to the very strong West wind blowing so they had to keep the dangling doors closed Sad

The food in the Fari was as good as always plenty of choice for the mains and plenty of great desserts to choose from, favourite would have to be the Marmalade Cake so tasty. Our food and beverage waiter Manik was excellent as always knew what drinks we wanted and had our glasses always topped up..

Nights were spent in the Kakuni or the Malaan depending on what the entertainment was. A couple of AI Cocktails then a walk home, sometimes via the Pavilion Bar.... Wink

We did see one tree hamster during our two weeks, it ran across the road infront of us as we were walking home. Mossies were a different story they were everywhere even with the industrial strength repellant on it made no difference we were bitten to bits scratch

All to quickly our 2 weeks ended and it was time to leave, would we return Question in a heartbeat. Has Meeru changed Question it has, we were not to keen on the new Dhoni Bar, it was lacking atmosphere and the seats are so uncomfortable..
Also a lot more family's were staying while we where there, the majority of the children were well behaved, but one or two caused havoc in the Fari at meal times running around and the parents had to be asked a few times to keep them under control, which they didn't Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Flight home was on the same plane, crew fine but the food could have been better..

As Arnie famously once said "I'll be Back" and we will hopefully sooner rather than later...

Sorry for rambling on for so long, if you are still awake Thanks for reading...

Thanks for posting....a really good read, and much more interesting thsn the Chancellors spending review which is all the BBC can offer!!!

Funny, a couple of your comments and just the same as we found. We loved the Dhoni bar by day, but found the seats too awkward in the evening...I think the 'almost laying down' thing also suppresses the atmosphere!!!

We felt the same about the children, although we were there with our two children, they were very well behaved....running around the restaurant would not be allowed!!! (They were too interested in tucking inot great food anyway) But there were many children running riot, throwing the stones in the centre...etc etc, with very little supervision from their parents. Our experience was that many of these children were not from the UK, mostly seemed to be our friends from russia, but then a badly behaved child is a badly behaved child, doesn't matter where they come from. It's just annoying for everyone else, and extra annoying for those of us who take our children, and don't want to be tarred with the same brush!!!

Glad you had a good time though, and like you, even with the niggles, can't wait to return!!!
