Ian and I have recently returned from Meeru and we experienced yet another fabulous holiday. I know I generally go on far too much on these reports so I thought Id try to focus a little more. In this one I will share with you some of our wok experiences and especially our day at Be the Chef.
The cooking course is relatively new and we first saw it advertised on Vilamendhoo back in October. Below is the advertising flier.
Many thanks to Debbie, Mark and Jason who we cooked with. You were all great company and we had a great laugh

Be aware that there is currently some literature on the island advertising a 12.30 start but it is definitely a noon start. No specialist clothing needed by you (we were even allowed to do it bare foot but this may change if and when someone has an accident); they supply aprons and hair nets and any ability cook would enjoy the class. The menu is as described on the flier and Trevin the chef took us step by step through the process. Most of our work took place in the main restaurant near the teppanyaki station but we did pop into the real kitchen to wash our hands and deep fry our bananas.

We prepared all three courses which were kept labelled and then had them served to us as we sat at the usual tables for dining.

Ian and I did this on one of the hottest days of the fortnight (so apologies for lots of sweaty faces in the pics). A day of very high temperatures and zero breeze yet we still had a fabulous time. At just $20 a head, you get small group tutoring, a great laugh, make new friends and have a brilliant 3 course wok meal at the end of it. If youre an old timer and fancy doing something different or if you dont fancy stepping on a boat to experience an adventure then this is definitely one to consider. The wok is generally very quiet in the day yet the views are fantastic. Here are some we took on our Be the Chef day.

And finally, last year I wrote about the receding water at the wok and posted pictures of me walking around the wok at high tide. The water is now back more than it was 12 months ago and you can still dangle with water lapping up beneath you. The waters are not as deep as they once were but they are definitely back so fear not danglers; its still a perfect way to watch the sun go down.
Still a great place to dangle

I would be quite interested in this...no Gordon Ramsey me for sure but something different and at $20 is a bargain. I have seen this on other islands but costs a lot more. Nice synopsis and great pics both Very Happy

Hi guys
Reading your replies as my roast lamb is cooking and feeling hungry. Looking at the pics again, i could just eat a wok tonight - the paneer masala is to die for and the garlic naan is too good to describe 😀
