Hi all,

In my trip report, I said I would write a separate piece about our plane. I've put this in the Lounge as it is a bit off-topic.

As we were flying with MyTravel, I expected that we would either be on an A330 from MyTravel's fleet or something similar that was on a lease for the winter season. I enquired at check-in and was told that the plane was a Boeing 767. I was aware that MyTravel had got rid of their three 767's (one to Monarch and two to SkyService) so I assumed that we would be on a plane leased-in from somewhere.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, the plane was (puzzlingly) freshly painted in the latest full MyTravel livery and looked absolutely gleaming. I couldn't work out why, so as we disembarked at Male, I made a mental note of the registration mark so I could look it up. It was G-SJMC. Here's a picture: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0971125/M/

Anyway, I've now found out that MyTravel did hand this plane over to SkyService (a Canadian airline) in April 2005, but then SkyService accidentally bounced it off a runway in the Dominican Republic in May, making a right mess of it. Here are some pictures: http://www.skyserviceclassaction.com/info.html

Oops! Shocked

It spent months getting fixed by Boeing, and unbelievably is now back in service with MyTravel again Shocked
Anyway, suffice to say that I'm glad I found the story AFTER I flew on it! Mind you, thinking about it, at least I know it had a good service recently Wink

Cheers,

Just to stop you worrying, that video isn't actually real. It was created for a Heineken advert Laughing

Like he says least you know its been serviced recently, wouldnt like to say how often some of these budget airlines service thier planes. Went to France 3 years ago on Easyjet and we were delayed for an hour and ahalf and eventually had to change aircraft because the backup engine controller caught fire on the first aircraft. Shocked Confused

I've only ever seen it on the web. It was a Dutch Heineken advert, so only aired in the Netherlands. You can see the full-length version (with the Heineken ending left in) here:
