As prices for Meeru are so expensive at the moment does anyone have a cheaper alternative?
We are both totally beach people and not into any kind of sight seeing or city hols. bad but true
Things we loved the most about Meeru(cause everything was great!)
1 the warm clean, clear sea and the soft sand
2 the weather
3 the choice of quality food
4 the spa(not a must)
5 we could go AI
6 water sports centre
7 The fact we could be lying on the beach and not see anyone around for ages was such a big bonus and added to the whole island feel.
Bars and nightlife is not at all important to us as we dont drink and would rather get up early and make the most of the day.
The golf, tennis, gym on Meeru was nice to have the option but again not a requirement.
All advice appreciated |

being honest NO
we have been to Sun island and that was beautiful.............but it didn't have the nio shoes no news sand floors that we like
we ourselves.probably now won't be able to return to meeru with the prices as they are
and so
will probably look to other less starred islands if needs be
at the end of the day
ALL of the islands are Paradise islands
as the Maldives is a beautiful country
all the best on your search
let us know how you get on

The only way to do this is to book last minute. You can pick up bargains flying last minute or when certain travel companies have offers or sales.
Like Maggie, I would love to return to Meeru, but sadly can no longer afford the extortionate prices (especially as I have kids who can only travel during school holidays).
Alternatively, I can also suggest Goa, Egypt & Phuket .... I have been to all 3 especially for the diving for the later 2.
Egypt ..... try Taba (staying at either the Hyatt Regency or the Intercontinental). Both are superb 5* hotels .... lovely beach, snorkelling, gardens & weather.
Goa ..... it's no where as clean as the Maldives, but it's lovely if you love curry. There some beautiful beaches a 30 minute taxi ride away.
Phuket .... try the Cape Panwa. Recently went there & it was lovely.
PM if you need more information. |

| Can't go wrong with Thailand, we have stayed in Phuket and Hua-Hin and both places were fantastic. |

Hi,,, we (my wife and i) went to a little known Island called Aruba.
We booked with First choice and enjoyed a brillant holiday in the carribean.
The Island is out of the hurricane belt, so you can go whatever time of year and the average temp is 30*.... There is a great water sports centre there were we passed our open water diving course.... The Island is completley different to other caribean islands in that you feel 100% safe no street traders etc... The cost for this was £3000 however we upgraded our seats and it cost another £400..... The flight time is approx 10hrs and are 5hrs behind gmt..... a fantastic place,,,, If my friend wasnt having his wedding blessed on Meeru i ould have been going back there this year... |

I totally agree with sid407 about Aruba
We went several years ago and had a great holiday. The hotel we stayed in was right on the beach and was one of the best AI's we have been in.
Saying that, all the islands in the Caribbean we have visited have been great |

If you're beach people Aruba is your island!
Their beach is voted one of the top 10 beaches in the world.
We stayed in Bucuti (adult only hotel). Bucuti is right on the beach, where the beach is at its widest. The breakfast was very nice, you can choose to have it indoor or at the beach. There's a pizza shop right behind the hotel that is very popular for their food, and they serve great cheap drinks and you can buy a bucket full of Corona beer. When you're on the beach you can stick your red flag in the sand, and the waiter will come and take your order.

We booked Meeru last June 6wks in advance - we paid 1850 for a week AI in a BV, with Emirates flights, I know it was only a week, but it was only about 800 more for 2, we just didn't have 2wks booked at that point!
Last minute you can get late deals, we always book late and have had some fab holidays doing that
If you are not too fussy about what you want (exact resort/etc) it can really work in your favour

Yep, did this for the last two holidays to the Maldives. The more flexible you are the more choice. |
