I am getting very nervous, the thought of doing the PADI course. (we go in 7 weeks ) I'm a competent swimmer but not a competent scholar!! I have done a couple of try dives years ago but have decided this holiday as its a special one, to do the Padi Scuba Diver course. Very nervous though, as havent sat in a classroom for years. The prices are a bit confusing, it list the price including equipment, but then goes on to say the boat is extra?
It's the two and half day course with 5 dives. Any info will be appreciated,
Many thanks

Paula..... you really shouldnt have any worries. my wife and i did our open water padi course (were in our early 40s) whilst in Aruba last year and only spent 1/2 a day in the class room (and we didnt revise on line) Let me assure you that you do all the training in the pool and only when your confident will they let you loose in the sea.... my best advice for you is to do the class room stuff on line before you go,, then you have a simple test and away you go.... believe me you will be bitten by the bug... and what a place to learn..... enjoy.. you wont look back... |

Diane and I both did the PSD course back on our first visit to Meeru in 2006. Its not hard and when I say its not hard, it isn't. The staff help and explain everything and when it comes to the test, you get help there as well. Divers like to dive and don't care too much being closed in a classroom.
The PSD is a very good course and you will enjoy it. If I remember correctly you get 3 dives in the lagoon in front of the 100 villas and you get 2 open water dives which are really good fun. Its good watching new divers trying to get the buoyancy right.
Don't worry, you will be fine. |

Hi Paula .... don't forget, it's a multiple choice test so the answers will be there in front of you.
I felt the same as you & I amazed my self when I got 98%. |

Just an update on how it went Been back now 3 weeks and only just come down to earth. If anyone out there is considering doing diving, but a bit apprehensive, dont be, its the best. As you know i was very nervous about the classroom work, but i can proudly say i passed even went onto to do the Padi Open Water Diver, with a bit of persuasion by Flo (my instructor, lovely French lady) and my hubby. So pleased I did as it gave me more confidence and having achieved this level, i can now go anywhere in the world. Yes there was a little bit of revision, but its really common sense (I haven't got alot but still passed) Seriously the Instructors are great and make you feel so safe, and all the different reefs you go to makes the whole experience one i will never forget. |

Congratulations Paula
I was also a very nervous learner and would agree that the staff in the dive school are fantastic at putting you at your ease.Flo is lovely isn't she.
Hope you continue to enjoy your diving now you are free to go anywhere in the world although the Maldives do take some beating!

Not so much unusual Sarah, but one of my lasting memories will be of my last dive. An enormous Turtle swam gracefully over to us and circled round us all. I even had to back off as he/she literally swam an inch away. It was amazing like in slow motion. I really recommend doing your PADI. The snorkling is still super but the experience being deep down and all the sea life above you as well as below, is incredible. Go for it |
