This was our 5th visit to the Maldives and 1st to Meeru.
Previously we have travelled with First choice from Manchester but as no direct flt we flew with Qatar with a few hrs at Doha to kill, we used the Oryx lounge which was really good, you can have up to 6hrs for the price of about 42 for the 2 of us, refreshments were fine and very spacious area's to relax, good facilities for freshening up and wifi. The flights were ok. If you wanted alcohol you either used your buzzer or went to the galley where they served you. Entertainment was fine, good choice of films.
It was 2yrs since our previous Maldives trip and nothing quite prepares you for the beautiful colours of the sea when you arrive, just breathtaking.
After such a long journey you just want to get to your island, we arrived at 0730, told our boat would be 0930, so ok have a coffee, 0930 came and went, eventually we boarded the boat at 1030, 3hrs after landing!!
And people complain waiting an hour!! this we were told was unusual.
All forgotten once we were there and checking in.
I had emailed and requested a BV in the 200's, this was honoured and our home for 10nts was 223, lovely.
Kindly escorted to our room and cases arrived shortly after.
The BV's are lovely and we were very pleased with our choice, not too far from the shoreline and trees around for some welcome shade.
We found the pools 1st class, the bars really nice, the food was really very well presented and plenty of choices.
All the staff were wonderful, our waiter and room boy very attentive and friendly, on our 2nd day after breakfast we came back to a wonderful bed decoration, then later in the day our complimentary half bottle of bubbly was in a bucket of ice.
It was nice to be able to sit on the decking at the restaurant if you wanted to although if inside you sat at your allocated table.
Lesley the rep was lovely, very friendly and seemed passionate that you were having a good time.
The managers were visible eating in the restaurant alongside the guests.
As my hubby is an engineer he was very interested in having a tour of the workings of the island, Lesley arranged this and he was shown round by the assistant engineer of the island a lovely man, he was away for about 2hrs and found it fascinating.
He completed his Padi open water referral whilst there after doing the theory and confined in the UK. The pro divers were great and Abdullah his instructor was patient and professional, they presented him with his diploma on the dive evening. At 55 he was so chuffed he was able to achieve this. He is well and truly addicted now and was able to do 6 dives while there.
We used the driving range and hubby played a round of golf with a lovely couple we met out there.
We met some lovely people, some repeaters, one of the couples 12 times! says something.
Cocktails in the Asian Wok at sunset while dangling over the edge was bliss, Dileep always ensuring your glass was filled up. We had a meal one evening there and it was 1st class, sat overlooking the sea with the moon and stars as our view.
Jay in the Pavilion bar, such a lovely man. We shared a pizza one day as felt like a change, I must say it was one of the best pizza's we have tasted.
Our favourite bar had to be the Dhoni, very relaxed and a lovely atmosphere, the staff were fantastic. There was a Maldivian trio on on a Tues evening playing guitars and singing mood music, they were very good. There was entertainment in the Kakuna bar most evenings if you wanted it.
The snorkelling was not as good as some other islands but it made up for it in other ways.
Now I'm pricing up to become a repeater next year.
Sorry for waffling on!! It was wonderful.

Really enjoyed reading about your trip to Meeru.
As you say nothing prepares you for the colours of the Maldives none of the photos can truly do it justice.
This May we are going to Vilamendhoo and can't wait to enjoy it all again, it has been a long two and a half years since our last Maldives holiday on Meeru Smile

Enjoyed your report. I could imagine that my hubby would love the 2 hour tour of the island workings. Just enough time to fit in a sneaky spa treatment.

Yes Joanne he found it really very interesting, they have a new bottling plant which will be ready in a few weeks, no more plastic water bottles, will be glass ones. They are able to recycle many things now, the plastic bottles have their tops cut off and are used by the gardeners for the new seedlings, had a tour of all the vegetation area as well, came away with some leaves that reduce blood pressure! wonder if they have any other magic potions... Wink

No, arranged it through the rep, hubby asked at Kuredu a few years ago but it never happened.
He went through Lesley our rep and met up with the ass engineer, as an engineer himself wanted to see the switch/control room, desalination plant, sewage etc, they exchanged idea's info and have kept in touch via email, he was absolutely fascinated at what it takes to keep the island up and running.

Cannot believe we have never done this it would have been very interesting, we have cruised the Caribbean for our last couple of holidays as Meeru is out of our budget at the moment and they do tour's of the ship but they are over 70 quid for a 2/3 hour tour - total rip off if you ask me!!!

I will put this on my list for the next time we visit paradise

Nice read Sue & Nige Very Happy
The behind the scenes tour are indeed very interesting as on Maafushivaru last year they encourage it to see how everything ticks with a question and answer with the off duty staff in there own rest area at the end. Something Meeru should consider as I think this could be popular.

I see this was your 5th trip to Maldives, what other Islands you been to?

Really enjoyed reading your report. Interesting that that there will be no more plastic bottles soon. That's brilliant news, it has always nagged at us the amount of plastic bottles used on the island. One year we crammed all of the water bottles we used in a week into our suitcase and brought them home...we got stopped at the airport after it went though the xray...but the chaps seemed amused when we explained what they were!!!

Well done Meeru for introducing this!!!

Not surprised you are pricing up for a return trip...it does have that sort of effect!!

Hello Casey,
We have done Kuredu x3 in 2007,2009 2010 with a couple of nts at Komandoo then Vilamendhoo in 2011 and now Meeru. After a couple of years you forget how vibrant the colours actually are, it was so nice to be back.x

Yes Deb and Mark, he was surprised what they can actually recycle, the engineer said they had reduced their waste by 75% to a shipload per month instead of per week. x

Thank you for posting your report, everyone has a different experience depending on which part of the island their accommodation is on. Glad you had a wonderful time and it says a lot to know that you are thinking of going back.
