We returned to Meeru for our 6th visit on 31st July 2015 after a week in Sri Lanka to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We decided that there was no better place to renew our vows than on Meeru.
We first visited Meeru in 2007 as a "once in a lifetime"holiday but keep on going back there ,we have just fallen in love with the island and the people there. The staff are so friendly and many remember you from year to year.Special mentions to Yovan who has now moved to the Dhoni bar ,Hassan and Ali in the Maalan restaurant, and Ali our room boy,all of whom go out of their way to have a chat with you each time you see them and always have a smile on their face.
We were booked in a water villa and were thrilled that we were allocated room 521 which we e mailed and requested. We love being right on the beach and just steps away from the sea.You cant beat waking up to that view and I never can tire of it.We prefer being in the water villas so that we are guaranteed being allocated meals in the Maalan restaurant at the north end of the island.
We met with Mariam the wedding coordinator the day after we arrived and she guided us through what the ceremony would entail. On the day of the ceremony I was collected from our room by the local island ladies in beautiful tradtional Maldivian dresses and taken to the Dunyie spa to have my hair and makeup done which was a lovely special treat for me.My husband and I were then escorted to the wedding pavillion by the local men and women who were singing and playing traditional drums as we went. The ceremony was so beautiful and emotional for us both.We then went in the wedding boat around the island to the beach close to our room, which had been done so beautifully by our roomboy Ali in flower decorations. We enjoyed the whole experience and having the photography package was well worth it as we have so many beautiful photos and memories of the day.
We met with Mariam again the following day as Meeru guest services are now profiling repeat guests who have been there 5 times or more to find out why we keep going back there and if we have any opinions as to how they can make any improvements .We laughed and said-no more tee shirts or wooden fish on sticks!other repeaters will know what I mean.We had well over an hour with Mariam just chatting away and we wish her well in her visit to London and Rome.
Our week there was so relaxed after a pretty hectic week in Sri Lanka which is just what we needed. As soon as we land at the jetty at Meeru it feels like that we have never been away, though in this case it was 2 years since we last went.
Needless to say that we are planning to return for our 7th visit, all being well next year.We have travelled to so many places all over the world and said we would not return to the same place ,but we cannot say this about Meeru ,it just keeps calling us back.

Great stuff. Glad you had another fab trip. Congrats on your wedding renewal. Our first trip to Meeru was after getting wed in Sri Lanka back in 2004. Meeru was very different back then! We are the same with comparing other places to our island. Can't wait for our trip back in October.

Really lovely report Denise. Thank you for taking the time to post. Glad everything went well for you on your special day. I really like the profiling idea. The serious repeaters have a depth of knowledge that's really worth tapping in to. We discuss things that we would probably never mention otherwise and it makes us feel valued. Ian and I were profiled back in April and from what others have mentioned on this forum it sounds as though some of our suggestions have already been acted upon.
Good luck with your plans for your 7th visit

Thanks for posting, your renewal service sounded lovely.

We too have been profiled, great that the Island are now doing this.

I can't agree though about the Tee-shirts, we are going for our 15th trip in October, and still love the tee-shirts...it's saved us a fortune in night attire over the years!!!!!
