This place is so so quiet which suits us fine. 25 to 30% occupancy literally no one here. No children on the island whatsoever.
General Manager met us on arrival after our long trip to welcome us back with bubbles and fruit in room and a bed decoration to welcome us back Very Happy
He kindly upgraded our 25th Anniversary beach dinner for a complimentary overnight stay and sole use on their private island Lonobu complete with own chef for private BBQ on the evening and breakfast in the morning...whoop whoop!!

Weather not to bad at the moment but a little cloudy at least no rain.

Well the weather has changed a bit this morning as it is currently blustery and raining but has now just stopped so hopefully a better afternoon to come.

Getting a tour around the day to day workings of the resort later this afternoon and a tour of the staff quarters and have a coffee in their own staff canteen..should be quite interesting. A bit snorkelling also this afternoon if weather clears up hopefully.

I saw your comments on another post about the weather and was about to comment that I wouldn't mind photos from your little private island and then I found this, from the website it looked spectacular would like to see if in reality it lives up to its expectations Wink

Ps. booked the twin seats and will see what chance there is of an upgrade would like to try it at least once maybe the last flight Dubai to Glasgow.......

Hi shanksy will upload a few photos to Flickr in due course...yes truly a kind gesture from the GM. The island is ours from 16.30 untill 09.30 for our sole use on our anniversary...truly Robinson Crusoe it literally takes about 3 minutes to walk around and has its own house reef..just hope the weather plays ball !!!

Regarding the upgrade to Business we again had the chance to upgrade from economy to Business on the A380 for £451 each from MAN- DXB on online check in and £301 to upgrade on the 777 fro DXB - MLE. Was tempted for the A380 but we had already purchased our extra leg room seats so we we were quite happy and also £900 gets you a lot of massages in the Spa ha! Laughing

Interesting talk by the GM into the running of Maafushivaru. It is evident that the increased competition and the continuation of new resorts opening is having an impact. Currently 167 staff and 20 guests and also the seaplane terminal is under heavy construction along with evidence of the start of new resorts in their early stages of building gives a stark reminder for established resorts to be on top of their game. Upside is a very personal service and VERY guiet and chilled...just the way we like it Smile

Our Lonubo private island escape was special and we shall cherish the memories of our 25th anniversary.
We arrived around 4.30pm after any guests had gone back over to Maafushivaru welcomed with fresh papaya juice at the jetty and shown to the only villa on Lonubo. (There is another but is only used by the caretaker and for storage). The villa comes complete with an outside jacuzzi and relaxing area. A cool box full of drinks and sparkling wine was left along with a torch and mobile phone for safety reasons and were left to enjoy the remaining light and a great sunset.

Our private chef and waiter returned later at about 7pm to set up our beach dinner table surrounded by oil lamps and fire sticks to make a very special ambience and to pre light the BBQ. The food was amazing and too much by far but we did our best with bread, starters bbq of pork belly, lamd cutlets, beef, chicken and jumbo prawns and accompanied sauces. Followed by tropical fruits...all delicious.

All the oil lamps were left to burn out during the night and as our chef and waiter departed on the boat to head back to Maafushivaru we were left all alone to take advantage of the true Robinson Crusoe castaway experience. We walked around with torches looking at many of the crabs that come ashore and the total quietness and the privelage of being the only couple here...magical and truly a bucket list experience.

We got up for sunrise which again was as magical as the sunset and our waiter returned in the morning with our breakfast which we had on our decking and the last few hours to soak up the beauty of Lonubo and returned back to Maaf and somewhat reality of seeing other guests.

Just a few photos on the link from Maaf & Lonubo (which are only iphone pics) but will upload some more from my DSLR when we get back home.

Photos....HERE
