We had a fantastic time in the summer of 2005 .. we went on a weeks cruise down the nile from Luxor to Aswan dam .. On discover Egpts viking III.
The tour operator Discover Egypt are not the best operator but .. their tour guides made up for it as did the hard working crew on the boat , not the most extravagant of ships .. but we had a fantastic group on the boat with us .. which made the holiday the best ...
Starting off in luxor you spend two days moored up .. you visit the valley of the Kings and various other tombs and temples .. a favorite of mine being Karnak Temple where death on the nile was filmed aswell as a James Bond where Roger Moore and jaws were fighting there ..
In the day lot's of birds fly round the temple .. at night bats by the hundreds .. we went to a light and sound show .. and the stars are so bright and it's a warm night and they tell you stories from old egypt over loud speakers around the temple .. we saw a fox also running through the temple ..
then you start off on the cruise .. taking in other places such as kom ombo and philae island ...
After watching stargate , the mummy and the mummy returns .. i can't recommend Egypt enough .. the history is phenomenal and the tour guides story tellers of the best sort ..
We went full board .. and just did the cruise but you can stay in hotels in Luxor for a discounted rate for a second week .. You sign for drinks as you go along .. just don't lull yourself into a false sense of security with this as the bill can add up ...
50 degrees in the shade at the hight of the sun so not for the faint hearted .. but all boats have a plunge pool on it so that helps keep you cool ...
Beer is Sakara .. a great brew .. wish they did it over here ... and wine is drinkable too ..
We are hoping to plan another trip to Egypt after we have been to Herathera ...
Love it ...
